DESIGN / ACCRA

Our design inspiration.

The line art on this site is drawn from Adinkra and from Accra. Nothing here is a borrowed icon. Each drawing is on a page because of what it means, and because that meaning is how the studio works.

ADINKRA / THE SYMBOLS

Nine symbols, each with a job.

Adinkra is a visual language from the Akan. These nine are drawn as line art, and each one is placed where its meaning matches the work.

SYMBOL

Nyansapo

Wisdom knot

Wisdom, ingenuity and patience: the problem solved with thought.

The wisdom knot sits where a problem has to be untied before anyone writes a line. On a case page it marks the challenge, the part of the job that needed thought.

SYMBOL

Aya

The fern

Endurance and resourcefulness. The fern grows where little else will.

The fern grows where little else will. It belongs with an outcome: the thing that is still standing after the first version shipped.

SYMBOL

Mate Masie

What I hear, I keep

Wisdom and knowledge, kept and put to use.

What I hear, I keep. It sits with proof, because the studio only claims what it can show you.

SYMBOL

Hwe Mu Dua

Measuring stick

Examination and quality: a fair measure, checked twice.

The measuring stick stands for prices. It sits next to the only fixed numbers on the site, because a fair measure is checked twice.

SYMBOL

Ese Ne Tekrema

The teeth and the tongue

Friendship and interdependence: they work together, even when they bump.

Teeth and tongue bump, and they still work together. On the home page, it answers why a client and a studio should work close enough to disagree and still finish.

SYMBOL

Dwennimmen

Ram's horns

Humility together with strength.

The ram's horns stand for strength that does not show off. They sit with the studio principles, not on a banner.

SYMBOL

Nkyinkyim

Twistings

Initiative, dynamism and the versatility to take a winding road.

The path twists. The stations on the home page are a winding road, not a plain list of services.

SYMBOL

Eban

The fence

Love, safety and security: the home that is well kept.

The fence is what a home shows the street, and what it keeps inside. A website plays that role for a business, which is why the symbol belongs to the websites station.

SYMBOL

Adinkrahene

Chief of the Adinkra symbols

Greatness, charisma and leadership.

The chief of the symbols. The closing band on every page carries it, so each page ends with the same calm authority it opened with.

ACCRA / THE MONUMENTS

The city, drawn once.

The monuments are places in Accra, not icons from a set. They sit behind the pages that talk about the studio, the work and the way a job runs.

MONUMENT

Black Star Gate

Black Star Square, Accra

The gate to the square where Ghana marks its independence.

The gate into Black Star Square. The work index opens under it, because the jobs are on public record.

MONUMENT

Jamestown Lighthouse

Jamestown, Accra

The striped tower over the old fishing harbour. The light is on.

The Jamestown light over the fishing harbour. It is the open door on the home page, and the mark on the loading screen while a page loads.

MONUMENT

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Accra

Resting place of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president.

Nkrumah's resting place in Accra. The studio story sits near it: a long memory, not a slogan.

MONUMENT

Akosombo Dam

The Volta River

Holds back Lake Volta and turns the river into power for the country.

The dam holds the water back and turns it into power. The services process works the same way: plan first, then let the work run.

MONUMENT

Atumpan

The talking drums

A pair of drums that carry messages in the tones of speech.

A pair of drums that speak in tone. Contact is that pair: two sides, one conversation.

CLOTH / THE FIELD

Kente, and the skyline.

Two patterns run across the site rather than sitting in one corner: the woven cloth, and the row of Accra marks in the footer.

PATTERN

Kente

Woven strip cloth

Narrow strips woven on the loom, then sewn together into one cloth.

Narrow strips, woven, then sewn into one cloth. The services and booking pages wear it as a field behind the words, never as a logo.

PATTERN

Accra skyline

Arch, gate, mausoleum, lighthouse, dam

Independence Arch, Black Star Gate, Nkrumah Mausoleum, Jamestown Lighthouse and the Akosombo Dam.

Independence Arch, the Black Star Gate, the mausoleum, Jamestown Lighthouse and Akosombo, drawn in a row. The footer of every page is the city the studio works in.

DESIGN / NEXT

The drawings stay behind the work.

If you want to see what the studio has actually shipped, the work is public.
